Thriving in the #newnormal - Video chat 7 (Yoga, home schooling and community)




I had Jen Swetlow on to discuss mental fitness, mindfulness, homeschooling and how she is adapting to the lockdown with her kids. I met Jen through my local yoga studio, where she is one of the directors. Jen often shared her wisdom with me and helped get me through my first 6 months of becoming a new dad. I hope you find her tips on maintaining your mental fitness useful.

  • Learn to adapt your yoga practice, try including the kids

  • Informal mindfulness practice is important too (e.g. hot baths and creating art)

  • Very important to move and get fresh air everyday

  • All parents who are homeschooling are "warriors"

  • Community and connection is very important for your mental fitness, utilise technology to create this

  • Learn to relinquish control over things that are not in your control

  • Your spiritual practice will help you discern what you can actually control

  • Surrender to the moment and take it all in

  • This is an opportunity to create a new balance between work, life and family. Embrace it!
